Delegating Director Responsibilities

Good planning is essential to ensuring a laboratory runs properly. Planning includes having a process for delegating responsibilities for times that the Laboratory Director is not available to perform or needs help to complete select duties.

Using a written plan, a lab director may delegate the performance of certain duties to qualified individuals while the director remains responsible for ensuring that all duties are properly performed.

In laboratories performing moderate- and high-complexity testing, some responsibilities may not be delegated, while other duties may be delegated to specific qualified individuals.

The accompanying document provides an at-a-glance overview of the Laboratory Director responsibilities that may or may not be delegated.
