The rising number of people with serious illnesses is generating demand for palliative care, as patients seek specialized services to better cope with pain and manage their conditions.

Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) recognizes the growing value these services offer and is launching a Palliative Care Accreditation program in April 2021 to advance quality of care and enhance business efficiencies.

Palliative care provides specialized supportive services for patients with serious illnesses, regardless of age or prognosis, and focuses on relieving symptoms and stress to improve quality of life for patients and their families.

Attaining ACHC Palliative Care Accreditation will give organizations a reliable way to validate the quality of their services and set their business apart. Standards focus on industry best practices and were based on the National Consensus Project Clinical Practice Guidelines for Quality Palliative Care.

Accreditation will be available for organizations offering a well-developed, active palliative care program. For home health, hospice, and private duty agencies accredited by ACHC, a Distinction in Palliative Care is available to recognize palliative care delivered as a bridge to other services.
