Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) is now recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as a national accrediting organization with deeming authority for Renal Dialysis accreditation. ACHC offers accreditation for both In-Center Dialysis (ICD) and Home Dialysis Support (HDS) services including new/initial certifications, renewal certifications, and service additions. This will enable dialysis providers an alternative for who performs the survey and a shorter wait time for that pending survey.
The delivery of an overall more timely process will subsequently result in less time the facility has to wait to receive approval for a service addition and for the CMS Certification Number for a new facility. This allows the dialysis provider to serve the needs of the ESRD population more efficiently and enables the facility to bill Medicare for services rendered. Additionally, re-certification surveys will not go beyond the 36-month requirement to ensure ongoing compliance, therefore reducing risk to the facility as a result of large gaps in surveys.
